  1. Shay-lon, i subscribed finally to your youtube. I love your hard honesty video, it really touched me. I havent been blogging for a year yet and it took me sometime to realise the like for like, follow for follow. Whats your thoughts on views versus likes?

Omg. Blogging is tough so tough… i started as i wasnt working and i could feel myself loosing myself and skill. I did it improve my writing and really share about positive and how are thoughts are key.. but there hasnt been a day where i havent thought of quitting, because it is so hard to blog. And as you say content matters. I keep going as i have bloggers like a good percentage of my posts but not all. I have 700 followers but may be only 24 likes maxs… so what does that say..?. i finally dont care about the numbers ?..it is about the value and fact the post helps someone thats what matters and makes it enjoyable and improving my writing and connecting with other bloggers

    • Hey! Thank you for subscribing, that is very nice of you to do and I appreciate it.
I kept it honest because it is true, so many people who ask me about blogging don’t realize, it isn’t about the number of followers you get (which yes it is important to grow your blog) but what is growing your blog if you don’t get views or if people don’t like your content. I have over 700 followers as well and as you can tell, I usually get maybe 10-20 likes per post and that depends on the post honestly. I don’t expect to get to a lot of likes on my workout post because most people don’t care about my workouts .. and that is okay 🙂 I tend to get more likes on topics that tell my story or tell a story or give someone advice or what have you. I only do my workouts on my blog because someone had asked me to and I figured why not, plus it holds me accountable. My content could be much more stronger and that is why I constantly work on it. I love blogging but it isn’t easy to write and keep people’s attention. Anymore, I care that people read it and engage. I used to be about getting followers and while I do like having a following because it meets my goals, I also want people to like what I have to say and read it. I don’t want to be a “like” that no one read or cared about. Ya know what I mean?

It also depends on how many of our 700 followers are active bloggers still, we don’t really know or keep track so it could be many of them are inactive or don’t read other people’s post anymore. It isn’t bad to have 24 likes on a post that is good considering I have seen bloggers with over 2000 followers with only 4 -5 likes on their post. think about it. We have good content, we do, but we also have content that others before us have published possibly, so we have to use our personality and voice to gain people’s trust and rapport, because content alone can be repeated a million times over but you can’t copy someone’s writing skills and personality. I get irritated when I feel like my writing his a plateau and yet, I find it relieving to know I am not a GREAT blogger, I am mediocre, still learning – but I am like you, always debating if it my blogging will ever amount to anything more.. but I keep writing because I love it and because I know I have to keep going 🙂
