Goodbye 2018 — Walking Down Memory Lane

I’ll Never Forget…

  1. The Friends I made — Thank you for coming into my life & supporting my goals, dreams and for being a friend to me during good and bad times — Ya’ll are the real MVPs.
  2. The family get together’s — The memories I shared with all of my family that were part of my 2018, I love you guys & so happy and blessed that you guys made it through another year with me.
  3. The job changes — I had to do what I needed to do to make things happen and I learned when you aren’t happy doing something, you have the power to change it, just have to look for other opportunities that will help build you & I also learned to not always jump at every opportunity because sometimes things need to be thought out before hopping on board — even if it means missing out. There will be other doors that will open, be patient.
  4. Having been hacked on social media — Thanks for hacking me hackers, ya’ll made it so I could start from scratch and challenged me mentally because after losing all my following, my pictures, my memories, etc, I didn’t think I would ever give it a go again because it just seemed to difficult of a task BUT GUESS WHAT? I did it! I started over and while I am no where near where I was to begin with, I am going to keep going after it. It  feels somewhat good to have to refresh and refocus my attention on building my business and empire once more — just don’t hack me again because I was extremely traumatized the first time, LOL
  5. Break ups & make ups — I am still single and while I wasn’t necessarily ready to have another long term relationship this year due to being stuck on an ex from 2017, I decided to do some dating around & learned that by lowering my standards, I am only hurting myself and the other person because I know what I need in a partner and as long as it is realistic, I should keep to it. I almost got myself in a relationship I didn’t want to be in due to me feeling bad after they poured out their liking for me. I lost their friendship but it was worth it if it means I don’t have to feel pressure to start a committed relationship with this person.I just have to learn to be patient, I am still young, there is no rush for love and as long as I have good friends, good family surrounding me and a positive outlook on life — I know when the timing is right, the person will walk in.
  6. Seeing my ex from 2017 at a festival for the first time since our break up & contacting her on Thanksgiving —Nothing prepared me for this moment and I don’t think I could have prepared for it even if I had knew ahead of time she would be there. That was hard situation for me, because we don’t have a friendship and seeing her there with one of her exes was shocking but at least I knew she for sure moved on. When I contacted her on Thanksgiving aka her birthday, it was only because it was on my heart to apologize to her — and she answered and was very pleasant about it .. it made me smile a little to know she had my number still and appreciated the apology. I thought maybe I would get an apology as well, but couldn’t be as lucky LOL anyways, maybe I can finally move on mentally from that relationship and allow myself to be free of the pain now. I guess I got the most closure  I will get from it.
  7. Starting my own business & website — Neither is perfect and both will need work but hey, I am glad I did it, that’s the first step before anything else, hopefully 2019 allows for more big things for my business/website as a personal trainer.
  8. New places I visited— Nothing crazy like years prior but a few new places & I love travelling so I want to do it more often each year; starting in 2019!
  9. Hitting a PR in my conventional deadlift at 305 lbs –– Huge deal to me, who knew I would hit 300 this year, so hopefully 400 will be the next big thing for 2019
  10. I read some good books —  I took some time to get a library card from our town library and then made time for reading & got to read some good books from Stephen King, I read the “Broke Milenninial” book — it was good too, I read some relationship building books & those were helpful and some of my inspiration for doing the 365 day self discovery post
  11. Paid off a credit card — yay! I was so happy when I paid off a credit card and my FICO score increased!
  12. Paid off my car – Another big Hooray for me! I now own it & it saves me money and feels good, I am finally adulting — small bit.
  13. My points from tickets have fallen off  & no car accidents — I feel like this is awesome because at one point I had 6 points (half way til I was suspended) from getting speeding tickets. lol but now I drive much better and do little speeding. & having no accidents is always a good thing!
  14. New songs I have fallen love with — added to my spotify playlist — I loved some of the new music I have heard this year, added many of them on my spotify account (I am huge into music)
  15. Went to my FIRST Metal band/Scream O concert – Who knew I would like this type of music, but I learned that some of it is actually really good when I understand what they are saying or can relate to the rage
  16. I have a savings account again — and have money in it, good amount of money in it and I am now more accountable with adding money to it weekly or biweekly 🙂 it feels good!
  17. I finished watching all of the Game of thrones series: && I am excited for the new season to start in April! I love the show!
  18. I went to the movie theater alone — It was on my bucket list of things I wanted to do, and I did it! was excited because it wasn’t as bad as thought it would have been — it was fine 😀 I survived.
  19. Still blog — Hey! I am still on wordpress and blogging, another year to be thankful for keeping at it and loving it.
  20. The many things I overcame to be here right now.. I’ll never forget those obstacles
  21. Went to Cedar point for the first time since like middle school & took my youngest brother for the first time — He loved it, and I enjoyed it. I am a wimp but always get on rollercoasters anyways and he enjoyed himself on the coasters and was just as scared as me but was very brave! ❤

Holiday Cheer!

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays Friends

I hope all of you had a wonderful Holiday — no matter which holiday you celebrate, I hope you had fun, and smiled a ton. For many people this can be a hard time because many people don’t have loved ones or have lost someone during the holidays, so it isn’t as cheerful, but I hope no matter the case, you were able to relax and slow down — and I hope if healing is what you need, that you will find the healing you need and continue to be strong because you are worth it. I lost my grandpa in December — so for me, it does happen to be harder at times when I think of him during this holiday — and how much I miss him and love him. I also lost an aunt of mine many years back due to homicide (hit and run) during the holidays (I believe close to Christmas or on Christmas day) so again, I know the pain of losing someone on holidays such as these and not feeling the most cheerful, but still I stuck it out because I am blessed that I was able to spend time with my siblings & some of my family members (including my mom) & see another year in good health.

It’s hard to smile or be happy with negativity attached to a holiday; but something that is worth noting and being happy about is knowing you made it another year. We aren’t guaranteed another year, day or moment, each time we see another Christmas, is like saying we survived the world, the chaos, the negativity and the bad — we survived life threatening disease, we survived accidents, we survived a natural disaster, etc, whatever it may be, we made it another year to see this day & not everyone can say that. Doesn’t mean we will make it through this next year, but it means we lived long enough to see Christmas 2018 & that’s a big deal. To keep this light and fluffy, I have some fun questions you can take part in answering if you like; otherwise, feel free to leave comments, follow, share, and like the page.

  1. Do you buy yourself gifts for Christmas?
  2. What is a holiday tradition your family takes part in?
  3. What makes Christmas special to you / if not Christmas, what makes your holiday special to you?
  4. Do you believe Christmas is becoming more and more commercialized?
  5. Growing up, what were some toys, etc that you wanted for Christmas?
  6. Do you celebrate Christmas?
  7. Did it snow on Christmas where you are from?
  8. Are you a fan of eggnog?
  9. Name a gift you received this year?
  10. Does your family cook for the holidays or do you prefer to dine in someplace?

6,000 WordPress Subscribers and close to 4,000 on the second blog

Something about success smells sweat — Shay-lon Moss

Most people could probably start this sentence out by saying they have worked really hard to get to this point BUT, I used to say this when I was writing more & talking to my following more, but now I hardly can say it because I have skipped days writing, and haven’t been consistent and my topics haven’t been the most interesting (besides my self discovery challenge) which I am enjoying might I add, and while I want to make the topics interesting & I will soon, I need to consider the fact I am creating a website for my business and it will have a blog & I want some of the topics to be for that website (but I will share the site and links to the blog post on this blog as well) so that everyone can read them — but this is why my topics on exercise have diminished a tad bit.. UGH! but on the bright side, today I plan on writing down topics I want to share on this blog & topics for the website so that it isn’t repetitive on both sites (even though some will be the same as past post with maybe more or new opinions, facts, etc) but it has been something I need to sit down and go over before writing. Thank you for baring with me and for being patient throughout my writing career, I appreciate all of you! I do, truly.

Having reached my milestone of 6,000 subscribers and over 2,000 followers on this blog has made me realize that I have come a long way — even with the baby steps and small increments of change and lack of interesting post, people still seem to enjoy something about my blog & I want to say it has a lot to do with my voice in my writing — because I don’t think my topics are all that amazing as of now (I will change this soon) because I have big plans for this blog site, I do. It will be tons of work, but I love writing and I am going to work my ass off to make it better and bigger and more responsive to my followers and readers alike. My second blog has been doing well & surprising the topics have been of great interest to many people and I enjoy that as well, and I plan on continuing down the path I am on with it as of now, and when it grows, it will have more changes as well.

My plans for 2019 for this blog:

  1. more post engagement
  2. topics
  3. removing or adding categories
  4. engaging more with new and old followers as much as I can
  5. sharing of guest post
  6. more engaging images/videos
  7. affiliates/monetizing
  8. possible theme change
  9. Meditation post — possibility for those who are interested 😀

small steps, so not to overwhelm myself.  My plans for the new website (that I will also share on this blog through links)

  1. my podcast
  2. videos
  3. new topics
  4. informational post
  5. interviews
  6. selling of my product line
  7. affiliates/monetizing
  8. writing for editors/other sites & sharing my work
  9. personal training packages & nutritional plans
  10. Q&A

Much much more 😀 which will be noted in the first blog page of the new website.

I am hoping in 2019, I can also work on writing my first book if my schedule allows time for it and after doing research, etc. I have big things I would like to see happen with my business, my career, my writing profession & life in general. It might not all happen at once and it might be slow to happen, but I am going to try nonetheless because I have a passion for success and wanting to thrive in this world. My hope is all of you will be around in 2019 to see these wonderful things unfold and that I shall see your blog develop as well —because your growth is just as important to me as mine is to me. Again, I appreciate all of you and those who have been a follower and reader of mine for long and short period of time, & I raise a glass to all those who continue to write going forward in 2019 😀 Many blessings and more success to you my friends. ❤

RIP To All Those Who lost their lives

I just want to take the time to say how sorry I am for all those currently struggling with the loss of their loved ones during the last night’s shooting in California at Borderline Bar and Grill. This world is chaos, and it has become a “normal” thing for these mass shootings, soft shooting to take place anywhere and everywhere. That’s sad, pathetic and scary. I was on twitter today and reading the masses of tweets and one in particular stood out to me (I dont have cable any longer, so I feel am always last to know things unless posted on FB or instagram or a friend should tell me) and did you guys know that this shooting marked 304th mass shooting of 2018 thus far. It blows my mind more and more when I think about it because we used to grow up in this mentality that “my neighborhood is safe, this town has hardly any crime, this could never happen here to me, what are the chances of it happening here, and the most crimes we have are small.. ” well guess what America? NEWS FLASH! but safe is relative & there is no safe zone, nobody is safe from destruction besides the dead. Hell, growing up, I always thought this town was safe from all harm due to it being a pretty well established area with very little crime but now, we have drug overdoses every week, we have had people killed from gunshots and stabbings and we have car break ins, etc.. and guess what? that’s not nearly half of what goes on here that the crooked system tries to hide, regardless, crime can happen everywhere and no state, city, county is safe from a mass shooting erupting — people don’t give a fuck! I hate to say it, but people who want to harm others; on a mission to make hell for someone else isn’t going to discriminate where it takes place, if they have the tools and the way in, they will take it & we need not forget that aspect.

Our country has been talking about “gun control” since the Pulse shooting and yet there has not been a solution in place, not enough action being taken and too much conversation that prolongs the process before another shooting happens. We say gun control, we say we need to not continue to make mass shootings a normal happening, we say we need to band together and come up with a solution, we say we need to change the laws, we say we need to ban certain people from obtaining weapons, etc, but what haven’t we done? we haven’t done enough.. we are discussing the same policies, the same written documents, the same agendas we were discussing back when things started and now we are doing the same thing , and this is giving perps more time to plan the next chaotic attack because we aren’t taking enough action. I am scared for our country and the future, scared for my family and friends, scared for myself and people who I don’t even know — innocent people’s lives.. I am scared because no matter what we decide, people aren’t going to wait for us to take action, they will continue to do these shootings because they can and will. When we finally take some sort of action, it probably still won’t be enough because the internet makes things easily accessible & we live in sick, cruel world where all it takes is a click of a button, power and or money and BOOM!

I was reading a post on twitter on how we are blaming these shootings on mental health problems/disorders and conditions but how dare we use this as a scapegoat each time someone decides to become radical and do a mass shooting. I couldn’t agree more with the person who stated it, because hell, I suffer from mental health disorders but I am not out here shooting up buildings, blowing up people and taking innocent lives — and while I know mental health is running rapid & many times people can’t afford medication, don’t know they suffer from something or can’t afford to get help they need, it doesn’t mean all of us with mental health disorders are taking it upon ourselves to kill people. I am more than aware that some have severe cases of mental health issues and can cause harm to themselves and others but I don’t believe we should continue using mental health as a scapegoat because I believe it fuels the stigma already placed on people who suffer from mental health disorders/conditions. If mental health is an issue (which it is when people can’t afford or have the help they seek or need) then lets come up with something to help those in need — but if every time we assumed someone who killed someone has a mental health disorder, it would be bullshit because there are so many people in their right mind who just are evil people doing these things, it doesn’t always come down to them having a mental health disorder, sometimes they are just malicious people with bad intents. Two things:

  1. We need to focus on the fact that NOT every person who goes out and does a senseless act has a mental health disorder, fact is, people can be evil and do crimes like this, it doesn’t mean they have PTSD or anxiety or anything else, it could just mean, they are evil and have bad intentions.
  2.  If we want to keep blaming mental health for reasons why people go out and kill people and commit mass shootings, then find a way to help people or make it possible for people to afford health care, prescriptions, therapy sessions, etc and create a better reform so people understand the different types of mental health disorders & instead of justifying the shootings with this person suffered with a mental health disorder .. how about we take action on gun control & have a better judicial system that hands out consequences instead of slapping people on the wrist to stay moral.

I agree with this person who quoted:Mental illnesses didn’t shoot & kill 12 people in last night. A man with a gun did. Im sick of people using mental illness as a scapegoat, which further stigmatizes those of us that struggle with it. It’s lazy & dishonest” -Khary Penebaker, Fx .

Again, I am sorry for all those that lost someone due to the shooting, I pray in time you heal and find it in your heart to continue living your best life. ❤

P.S I am all for conceal to carry, I believe protecting ourselves is the best method these days; especially in having to defend yourself and family/friends. Take away people’s right to protect themselves, we are left defenseless and people who can’t fend for themselves are usually left to die without being able to put up a fight. However,  I do believe we can come up with a solid solution that doesn’t take away people’s rights to defend themselves but makes it harder for those who shouldn’t have gun to obtain one, but even so, the internet is easy and accessible and people will always find a way. Sadly.

Happy Independence Day!

Happy Fourth of July To All Of You!

Happy Memorial Day

Memorial Day Monday

So I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day Today!

I know for some it doesn’t have much meaning behind it but for me, it is a blessing to be in a country where I have freedoms that other countries may not have them, and it is a blessing that I have people who fight for me in wars that I know, I could not take on myself. I suppose Memorial Day has different meanings to different people and some may not even recognize it, but I want to say a special thank you to all the vets for your service and continued service for our country.

The Arnold Classic 2018 Moments

So those of you who didn’t already know, I attended the Arnold Classic Fitness Expo March 2nd – March 4th. I thought I would let everyone in on some pictures and news 😀

This was my second year going, the whole weekend was fun and something to remember, I met many, many, fitness industry celebrities, went to parties, got some supplements and samples and bought me a pair of versa gripps — the most meaningful moments were spending that time with a circle of friends. I stayed in Columbus, Ohio all weekend during the event. Parking was critical Saturday because it was 2X busier on Saturday than it was Friday. Friday I paid 10 dollars for parking and Saturday I paid 20 dollars— ugh! also, the weather was cold but decent sunshine so if walking in the cold wasn’t your thing, then you either needed to arrive extremely early or live in the area to get a close parking spot near the convention.

I could definitely tell in the last few years, the Arnold Classic has grown in size as far as attendees, which makes it really difficult to get through lines, avoid being pushed or knocked over & I definitely would say that bringing small children would not be in your best interest because of how busy the convention is all weekend. It doesn’t allow strollers, which is a GOOD thing because could you imagine being ran over by a stroller, it hurts! Also, it did seem people with wheelchairs attended but it was difficult for them because they not only had to avoid running people over, but people were constantly pushed up against their wheelchairs. These are things one should expect if you are a newbie and things most people are prepared for if they have attended previous years. I think the easiest way to go about this weekend is to have a list of pros and cons of my experience 🙂

Pros

  • You get free samples of pre-workout
  • you meet fitness industry athletes and celebrities you might not normally meet in everyday life
  • They have performances in powerlifting, bodybuilding and CrossFit (women’s and mens)
  • They had fencing, cheerleading events, body painting events, american ninja warrior
  • you could participate in events (events that companies allowed general population to compete in)
  • They had a food court within the convention if you didn’t want to leave the site
  • you could carry in bags and backpacks but they were always checked at the door
  • You are able to use cash or credit for event or order tickets in advanced
  • There was NO line having to get into the building
  • There were elevators, esculators and stairs accessible
  • variety of booths that offered apparel, supplements or games
  • everything is usually cheaper (weightbelts, chalk, etc) at the arnold classic
  • taking a picture with the Arnold statue 😛
  • could watch pre-judging for bodybuilding events
  • the convention is downtown Columbus, so it is surrounded by many restaurants and hotels, stores
  • There were police present outside to give help to those crossing the street and officers inside the convention
  • there was an information booth and directory if one gets lost
  • You don’t have to be fit to attend, it is an event for any walk of life
  • tons of entertainment within the convention
  • parking near the convention and off the main street
  • You were able to reserve parking
  • tons of walking, so great for exercise
  • handicapped accessible
  • You get to see Arnold S, if you are lucky.. he speaks to you and you can get a picture of him walking the convention/expo

/There were other pro’s to be listed about the event, but this was small taste of what it was like

Cons

  • Bathrooms were difficult to find at times within the convention center.
  • some of the bathrooms were small, so having to wait to use the bathroom
  • the amount of people could make someone claustrophobic
  • no strollers allowed (which sucks if you have a child who needs one, but it is a good thing because they wouldn’t be safe to bring in the expo)
  • LONG LINES FOR EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING!
  • easy to spend tons of money at this event, so have a budget set for yourself if you are trying to save money
  • parking further away from the event can be hard on those who have issues walking or don’t enjoy walking in cold air
  • the food court didn’t offer healthier options .. except for maybe one place
  • the food court restaurants were pricey
  • people drive horrible in Columbus, be prepared to go fast and to be cut off multiple times
  • people cut people in lines at the event (sometimes) so pay attention to who is in front of you so you don’t have people try to cut
  • some of the fitness industry athletes were walking around in the expo — which meant it was harder to get to them because normally a crowd would form and make it harder to get a picture or video
  • The Wi-fi service was 80 dollars if you wanted to use it (each day)
  • the service within the convention was HORRIBLE!
  • some of the athletes can be assholes or rude — thankfully the ones I met were down to earth and willing to talk to you
  • some people were rude because they would knowingly take up 20 minutes of the athlete’s time while holding up a long ass line.
  • If you have low self esteem, this convention can be overwhelming because tons of people are in shape and have very little clothing on (revealing their quads, abs, backs, etc) and so if this bothers you… it might not be your cup of tea. However if you enjoy seeing other people’s progress and physiques, then you will enjoy it.
  • If you smoke, you cannot smoke inside the convention or expo (which in my opinion is a good thing) but for smokers would be a bad thing

That was some of the cons of the event, obviously there might have been more but this gives ya an inside look.

I personally enjoyed myself and had tons of fun, I won some things, got amazing products and have learned so much about others within our industry. I have pictures and videos I will posting from the event all week.. so stay in touch with my Instagram — FitnessWonderwoman

& make sure to follow me on Twitter as well for updates — https://twitter.com/ShayM_Fitness

Let me know if you attended this event this year in the comments!
