RIP To All Those Who lost their lives

I just want to take the time to say how sorry I am for all those currently struggling with the loss of their loved ones during the last night’s shooting in California at Borderline Bar and Grill. This world is chaos, and it has become a “normal” thing for these mass shootings, soft shooting to take place anywhere and everywhere. That’s sad, pathetic and scary. I was on twitter today and reading the masses of tweets and one in particular stood out to me (I dont have cable any longer, so I feel am always last to know things unless posted on FB or instagram or a friend should tell me) and did you guys know that this shooting marked 304th mass shooting of 2018 thus far. It blows my mind more and more when I think about it because we used to grow up in this mentality that “my neighborhood is safe, this town has hardly any crime, this could never happen here to me, what are the chances of it happening here, and the most crimes we have are small.. ” well guess what America? NEWS FLASH! but safe is relative & there is no safe zone, nobody is safe from destruction besides the dead. Hell, growing up, I always thought this town was safe from all harm due to it being a pretty well established area with very little crime but now, we have drug overdoses every week, we have had people killed from gunshots and stabbings and we have car break ins, etc.. and guess what? that’s not nearly half of what goes on here that the crooked system tries to hide, regardless, crime can happen everywhere and no state, city, county is safe from a mass shooting erupting — people don’t give a fuck! I hate to say it, but people who want to harm others; on a mission to make hell for someone else isn’t going to discriminate where it takes place, if they have the tools and the way in, they will take it & we need not forget that aspect. 

Our country has been talking about “gun control” since the Pulse shooting and yet there has not been a solution in place, not enough action being taken and too much conversation that prolongs the process before another shooting happens. We say gun control, we say we need to not continue to make mass shootings a normal happening, we say we need to band together and come up with a solution, we say we need to change the laws, we say we need to ban certain people from obtaining weapons, etc, but what haven’t we done? we haven’t done enough.. we are discussing the same policies, the same written documents, the same agendas we were discussing back when things started and now we are doing the same thing , and this is giving perps more time to plan the next chaotic attack because we aren’t taking enough action. I am scared for our country and the future, scared for my family and friends, scared for myself and people who I don’t even know — innocent people’s lives.. I am scared because no matter what we decide, people aren’t going to wait for us to take action, they will continue to do these shootings because they can and will. When we finally take some sort of action, it probably still won’t be enough because the internet makes things easily accessible & we live in sick, cruel world where all it takes is a click of a button, power and or money and BOOM!

I was reading a post on twitter on how we are blaming these shootings on mental health problems/disorders and conditions but how dare we use this as a scapegoat each time someone decides to become radical and do a mass shooting. I couldn’t agree more with the person who stated it, because hell, I suffer from mental health disorders but I am not out here shooting up buildings, blowing up people and taking innocent lives — and while I know mental health is running rapid & many times people can’t afford medication, don’t know they suffer from something or can’t afford to get help they need, it doesn’t mean all of us with mental health disorders are taking it upon ourselves to kill people. I am more than aware that some have severe cases of mental health issues and can cause harm to themselves and others but I don’t believe we should continue using mental health as a scapegoat because I believe it fuels the stigma already placed on people who suffer from mental health disorders/conditions. If mental health is an issue (which it is when people can’t afford or have the help they seek or need) then lets come up with something to help those in need — but if every time we assumed someone who killed someone has a mental health disorder, it would be bullshit because there are so many people in their right mind who just are evil people doing these things, it doesn’t always come down to them having a mental health disorder, sometimes they are just malicious people with bad intents. Two things:

  1. We need to focus on the fact that NOT every person who goes out and does a senseless act has a mental health disorder, fact is, people can be evil and do crimes like this, it doesn’t mean they have PTSD or anxiety or anything else, it could just mean, they are evil and have bad intentions. 
  2.  If we want to keep blaming mental health for reasons why people go out and kill people and commit mass shootings, then find a way to help people or make it possible for people to afford health care, prescriptions, therapy sessions, etc and create a better reform so people understand the different types of mental health disorders & instead of justifying the shootings with this person suffered with a mental health disorder .. how about we take action on gun control & have a better judicial system that hands out consequences instead of slapping people on the wrist to stay moral. 

I agree with this person who quoted:Mental illnesses didn’t shoot & kill 12 people in last night. A man with a gun did. Im sick of people using mental illness as a scapegoat, which further stigmatizes those of us that struggle with it. It’s lazy & dishonest” -Khary Penebaker, Fx .

Again, I am sorry for all those that lost someone due to the shooting, I pray in time you heal and find it in your heart to continue living your best life. ❤ 

P.S I am all for conceal to carry, I believe protecting ourselves is the best method these days; especially in having to defend yourself and family/friends. Take away people’s right to protect themselves, we are left defenseless and people who can’t fend for themselves are usually left to die without being able to put up a fight. However,  I do believe we can come up with a solid solution that doesn’t take away people’s rights to defend themselves but makes it harder for those who shouldn’t have gun to obtain one, but even so, the internet is easy and accessible and people will always find a way. Sadly.

So I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day Today!

I know for some it doesn’t have much meaning behind it but for me, it is a blessing to be in a country where I have freedoms that other countries may not have them, and it is a blessing that I have people who fight for me in wars that I know, I could not take on myself. I suppose Memorial Day has different meanings to different people and some may not even recognize it, but I want to say a special thank you to all the vets for your service and continued service for our country.

The Arnold Classic 2018 Moments

So those of you who didn’t already know, I attended the Arnold Classic Fitness Expo March 2nd – March 4th. I thought I would let everyone in on some pictures and news 😀 

 

This was my second year going, the whole weekend was fun and something to remember, I met many, many, fitness industry celebrities, went to parties, got some supplements and samples and bought me a pair of versa gripps — the most meaningful moments were spending that time with a circle of friends. I stayed in Columbus, Ohio all weekend during the event. Parking was critical Saturday because it was 2X busier on Saturday than it was Friday. Friday I paid 10 dollars for parking and Saturday I paid 20 dollars— ugh! also, the weather was cold but decent sunshine so if walking in the cold wasn’t your thing, then you either needed to arrive extremely early or live in the area to get a close parking spot near the convention. 

 

I could definitely tell in the last few years, the Arnold Classic has grown in size as far as attendees, which makes it really difficult to get through lines, avoid being pushed or knocked over & I definitely would say that bringing small children would not be in your best interest because of how busy the convention is all weekend. It doesn’t allow strollers, which is a GOOD thing because could you imagine being ran over by a stroller, it hurts! Also, it did seem people with wheelchairs attended but it was difficult for them because they not only had to avoid running people over, but people were constantly pushed up against their wheelchairs. These are things one should expect if you are a newbie and things most people are prepared for if they have attended previous years. I think the easiest way to go about this weekend is to have a list of pros and cons of my experience 🙂

 

Pros

 
  • You get free samples of pre-workout
  • you meet fitness industry athletes and celebrities you might not normally meet in everyday life
  • They have performances in powerlifting, bodybuilding and CrossFit (women’s and mens)
  • They had fencing, cheerleading events, body painting events, american ninja warrior
  • you could participate in events (events that companies allowed general population to compete in)
  • They had a food court within the convention if you didn’t want to leave the site
  • you could carry in bags and backpacks but they were always checked at the door
  • You are able to use cash or credit for event or order tickets in advanced
  • There was NO line having to get into the building
  • There were elevators, esculators and stairs accessible 
  • variety of booths that offered apparel, supplements or games
  • everything is usually cheaper (weightbelts, chalk, etc) at the arnold classic 
  • taking a picture with the Arnold statue 😛
  • could watch pre-judging for bodybuilding events
  • the convention is downtown Columbus, so it is surrounded by many restaurants and hotels, stores
  • There were police present outside to give help to those crossing the street and officers inside the convention 
  • there was an information booth and directory if one gets lost
  • You don’t have to be fit to attend, it is an event for any walk of life
  • tons of entertainment within the convention
  • parking near the convention and off the main street
  • You were able to reserve parking 
  • tons of walking, so great for exercise
  • handicapped accessible
  • You get to see Arnold S, if you are lucky.. he speaks to you and you can get a picture of him walking the convention/expo

/There were other pro’s to be listed about the event, but this was small taste of what it was like

 

Cons

  • Bathrooms were difficult to find at times within the convention center. 
  • some of the bathrooms were small, so having to wait to use the bathroom
  • the amount of people could make someone claustrophobic 
  • no strollers allowed (which sucks if you have a child who needs one, but it is a good thing because they wouldn’t be safe to bring in the expo)
  • LONG LINES FOR EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING! 
  • easy to spend tons of money at this event, so have a budget set for yourself if you are trying to save money
  • parking further away from the event can be hard on those who have issues walking or don’t enjoy walking in cold air
  • the food court didn’t offer healthier options .. except for maybe one place
  • the food court restaurants were pricey
  • people drive horrible in Columbus, be prepared to go fast and to be cut off multiple times
  • people cut people in lines at the event (sometimes) so pay attention to who is in front of you so you don’t have people try to cut 
  • some of the fitness industry athletes were walking around in the expo — which meant it was harder to get to them because normally a crowd would form and make it harder to get a picture or video
  • The Wi-fi service was 80 dollars if you wanted to use it (each day)
  • the service within the convention was HORRIBLE! 
  • some of the athletes can be assholes or rude — thankfully the ones I met were down to earth and willing to talk to you
  • some people were rude because they would knowingly take up 20 minutes of the athlete’s time while holding up a long ass line. 
  • If you have low self esteem, this convention can be overwhelming because tons of people are in shape and have very little clothing on (revealing their quads, abs, backs, etc) and so if this bothers you… it might not be your cup of tea. However if you enjoy seeing other people’s progress and physiques, then you will enjoy it. 
  • If you smoke, you cannot smoke inside the convention or expo (which in my opinion is a good thing) but for smokers would be a bad thing

That was some of the cons of the event, obviously there might have been more but this gives ya an inside look.

2017 Blog Recap: My Pitfalls and Success!

thought I would take this time to reflect on my blogging career since first starting Dec. 2016. 

 

Once upon a time I was a beginner just like some of you new bloggers, I was searching for answers, perfection and followers. I owe my blogging to a professor whom gave me the idea and I took off with it – if it wasn’t for his guidance; I would have never found this passion & would have missed out on such amazing opportunities with my writing. 

 

He gave me the idea, but I had to come up with the answers, come up with the solutions, had to put forth the effort to see any success. In the beginning, I was restless, I was anxious, I was nervous and I was alone on this journey- while I had his continued support, I didn’t have the support of many others until my blog started taking off on its own (even then, the support was minimal). I struggled trying to find my voice within my writing, coming up with topics, making a routine, creating an actual blog and deciding which platforms to use. Google was both my friend and nemesis because while it was helpful; it wasn’t enough. Soon, I had to put forth all my efforts with contacting veteran bloggers with questions, concerns, and had to read blog after blog after blog in order to find my own wings. 2016 was tough to say the least and 2017 had its patches as well. 

 

In year 2017, I had great days where my stats were glowing and showering with new views and followers – I was hitting top success, BUT towards the middle & end of 2017 my blog was coming to a slow end ( I was writing less entries, views were low, my following was slow and my online presence was dwindling) getting lost in all the saturated fitness and health blogs— I struggled to stand out. My blog helped to get me sponsored as an athlete, it helped me be able to have a chance in writing for editors of very popular magazines (Muscle and Fitness magazine) and it gave me opportunities to write for online sources both paid and unpaid opportunities all the while it was tumbling down a downward slope.. 

 

I love my blog, and even though it isn’t at its BIGGEST success as of yet, I hope that 2018 will be the year it shines its brightest. In fact, I plan on putting in more work on this blog (and my other blog) than I have in the past couple of years of writing because I have HUGE dreams to fulfill and HUGE ideas that are possible and with the right amount of time and dedication, I know I can turn my blog into a HUGE success. A blog that will blow the minds of those who doubted me. In the meantime I plan on taking this blog to new heights, but still keeping it simple & still keeping it true to myself – always. 

 

I have seen my pitfalls and my triumphs within my writing – and 2018 will still have pitfalls and triumphs, it will just be a new year of showing continued growth. Many people consider me a successful blogger/writer in the fitness industry, but I don’t consider myself as such because the most successful of them are the ones who you remember the most, you read the most, you follow, you feel inspired by and have learned something from that has significantly played a part in your life, you subbed to their blog because you never want to miss a moment or story; you didn’t leave their side during bad months of writing and you weren’t just a follower of their’s- but somebody they knew and had grown to connect with. I want that. I want all of those things when people visit my blog. 

 

I appreciate all of you for being here to read this, It means a lot to me that I am ending 2017 on a positive note. Have a wonderful NEW YEARS 2018 🙂

Everyone Wants to lose weight/be fit; but how do you do it?

I am willing to assume that many of you have a New Year’s resolution and out of the many of you, most of you will have one that deals with “losing weight, gaining muscle, being fit” , etc. All of which fall into the category of “wanting to change your appearance” in some way or fashion. About this time, this means more and more articles are hitting the social media platforms/websites about ways to lose weight, gain muscle, be lean, etc — which translates to many of you will be hopping on board with the ideas and come to realize: 

1) they don’t work (not for everyone)

2) you can’t sustain it for the long term 

3) it gives short term results

4) you give up because you lack the motivation

5) you financially cannot afford it

6) You make up excuses for why you can’t start “now”

7) you have been relying on your friends and family to take part in it with you and when they quit, you quit. 

8) you didn’t do enough research on the matter, so you end up hurting yourself.

9) You didn’t have a backup plan in place for when you fail

10) most the shit you see is the same shit you have seen before — just a new name attached. 

&& if that isn’t enough, you are becoming DESPERATE – which means you try anything and everything and when nothing works or when you hit a plateau or when things become hard, you GIVE UP. 

 

Sadly, we get so worked up for the New Year, that we forget we have been through this same cycle over and over and over again. So.. Quit the cycle. Quit being desperate. Quit being a follower of a new fad/trend and do something different this year. This year: Work for it. Be patient. Be informative. Be determined. Be motivated. Be disciplined. Be mentally prepared. Be good to yourself. Be Strong. Be Unstoppable. 

 

This year:

Stop giving up. Stop making excuses. Stop complaining. Stop blaming. Stop relying on others. Stop being weak minded. Stop allowing others to mold you. Stop being a follower. Stop putting yourself down. 

 

There is no secret to this fitness thing, because everyone has a different formula. I found my own that worked for me, I constantly struggle but I manage to still have enough in me to keep going. If you want something bad enough for yourself, you will find a way, a way that works perfectly for you & when it gets harder — you won’t give up but instead be strong and continue on.
