365 days of self discovery: Day 24

Is there anything that has changed your outlook on life?

  • As humans, we will have good & bad days, and, I think sometimes our outlook on life can stem from circumstances and/or situations that arise within our lives that we can & cannot control. When I am having a terrible day, it’s so easy for me to be negative & think of life negatively, but when something good happens, in turn it’s like I feel as though life is all good in the neighborhood. At the end of the day, I always have to stop and think there is always someone who has it worse than me; this attitude alone has made me more grateful for the life I have — even when I feel as though it isn’t the best life.

How do you feel about your outlook on life, is it good or bad & why. What made it so that your outlook is the way it is? leave comments, share, like & follow!

Being a Champion is what happens when the world isn’t looking

champions

Maybe we don’t own trophies to prove it, but we all are champions. Many of you probably think I am crazy for saying so, because what is a champion, if they haven’t won anything, right? This is true,  I mean normally a champion wins something, but when I talk about the word champion, I don’t mean winning a Gold medal or first place trophy, I mean we all do something that makes us a champion. Some of us may not always be champions, sure we make mistakes, we fuck up, we land flat on our faces sometimes and complain about it. It isn’t the fuck up that we should be judged for, it’s what we do after the fuck up that makes most of us champions, it is what we do when doors are closed and no one is watching, it is the smile you put on someone’s face without trying, it is the dollar you gave without asking them why, it is the drive you make in order to see a loved one, it is the gift you bought while you were struggling, it is the courage you had when the world was against you, it is the change you made to save your marriage, it’s the story you told to spread awareness, it is the life you saved without mentioning, it is the fight you gave during your battle of cancer, it is the tears you cried watching a loved one die, it is the promise you kept when everything fell apart, is the friendship you gave someone, the last dollar in your pocket you spent on someone else, the last goodbye, etc.

See, athletes are used to being champions in front of a large crowd,  I would know, I was an athlete all my life, we are used to being applauded for our wins, our triumphs, our records, our pristine smile in front of cameras. The world calls you a good person, the world thinks of you being a good role model, being a good child, a good sibling, a good parent all BECAUSE you do a good job at your event or sport. God forbid you are a horrible at your event and/or sport, now the world will think of you as a loser, you suck, we don’t care about you, now your smile is meaningless, your parenting skills go unseen and you no longer have their attention. The sad fact is we all want to be validated for something good we have done, we look for someone to tell us “good job”, “you are awesome”, “that was amazing”, “I want to be just like you when I grow up”, etc. because we put on this face in front of people and make people believe that what we do in the light is what we do in the dark.  O.J Simpson is a good example of this, he was an amazing athlete during his time and people loved and adored him, all of a sudden his wife is murdered and he faces trial and no one wants to believe he killed her because he was a “good” person on camera, during games, at practice, at the park with his son, so how could he kill his wife? He was made out to be this teddy bear and lovable person, but what he did behind closed doors, the camera couldn’t see.  He knew what he did behind closed doors and he knew what the public seen of him, he chose to make bad decisions (in my opinion) behind closed doors, therefore he is a fraud; he only made good decisions when he got something out of it. This is no different than talking badly about a friend of yours then going to hang out with this same person after talking bad about him/her; you’re fraud because your actions done in the light don’t match what is done in the dark.

I am not saying we don’t make mistakes, because we do and we all have a past. The difference is some people change in order to do better, and some people stay complacent. The world only sees what we show, what we don’t show is what makes someone a champion if it is the right thing to do. You don’t need lights, camera, action to be a champion, you don’t need a trophy, a medal, a certificate, or tons of friends, all you need is a good heart and good intentions. “What you do in the dark will come to light when you least expect it” -Shay-lon Moss

Might have another blogger interview next week :)

Hello everyone!

I wanted to keep everyone update on my life as far as my writing, work, goals, etc.

I have some good news I want to share with all of you and hopefully all of you will be just as excited to hear it.

  1. I spoke with a fellow fitness blogger and we are expecting to do a collaboration this month that should be finished by the end of October. It will have something to do with fitness/health & will definitely be worth the wait. It is very exciting.  She reached out to me on social media and wanted to do something different and invited me to work with her on it, we spoke via phone and decided what we kind of want to do, and agreed on some topics and are in the making of creating something fun for our audience! Many of you probably already follow her blog, gojenbefit, if you don’t, take a look at it, she has some good content to offer 🙂
  2. I have not heard back from the editor as of yet, so it should be this week or next, I still have one more article due that needs done by the 27th, so pretty soon I will be working on that article. Busy, busy.
  3. I am still studying for my CPT exam, not fun but needs done so I am prepared.
  4. I have two guest bloggers who will soon be turning in their articles to me to be posted on my site. Be on the lookout for them, they will be awesome!
  5. I have not done my pitch yet for the editor of Muscle & Fitness magazine, but I am trying to make some time in doing that as well, since he did offer me to send him more, I will take advantage of this
  6. I have contacted a fellow blogger who many of you know and asked if he would allow me to do an interview and/or present a blog post to be featured on his page and he has gotten back with me on the idea and I believe next week we will be setting up an interview via skype. I am hoping it makes his radio talk show, that would be awesome, but if not, I still think it is awesome I get this opportunity! I am very nervous and excited all in one. Hopefully he doesn’t throw me any curve balls, LOL. I will and I am sure he will let everyone know when the video gets posted 😀 be on the lookout for that as well!
  7. I have been receiving many positive emails from some of you and I would like to say thank you! it is always awesome when I can wake up and read your emails! love it.
  8. Follow me on social media, if you would like, I am active on all of them (yeah I don’t know how I manage it either) lol.  but love connecting with everyone in various ways.
  9. Thank you for the continued support on my Youtube videos, I know I can be a goof many times, but everything I tell you has some form of meaning to it. I do plan on making more videos besides on Monday’s but right now, my schedule is full most days, but I will let everyone know when I decide to add more videos and on what days. I am looking at starting “Topic Tuesdays” – yes I did make this clever idea up, lol so be on the lookout when I announce my first Topic Tuesday video.
  10. Finally, I want to let everyone know, I apologize if I don’t always get to your new post “on time” or if I don’t seem like I venture to your page often enough, I really honestly try to make it to your page with the time I do have, I am not the fastest reader in the world, so when I do venture.. reading each post takes me time and that is why sometimes I don’t make it back to your page for days or weeks at a time. In an event you want me to look at a particular post and leave feedback, let me know.. I don’t mind, I try to at least read and like what I like, if I don’t like it, I don’t pretend I do. LOL or I haven’t read it yet.
  11. If you want to be a guest post on my blog, you are more than welcome to contact me and give me the scoop in what you want to write and if I like it, cool, if not, we shall tweak it or I keep it real and tell ya it isn’t a good fit, but no worries I am very chill:) If you want me to pick out a topic for you, I do that too. it just means more work for me. LOL. Also, I can guest post for others, if you want me as a guest post or interview, contact me, and we can talk about it.
  12. As far as collaborations, if you want to collaborate with me on something, that is cool too! I am always open to work together on a project with people!

Don’t hold me accountable for this semi-long post, lol. My life isn’t all daisies, I just left out the disasters . haha.

Crying in a pool full of tears

relationship-unknown

It’s scary to think it was just a month ago, I had found someone who made me feel alive and wanted for the first time in a long time.  It will be almost two months and I never thought for a second I would be at this point in the relationship where I am faking a smile, burying my head in pillows, and feeling less than my best on a constant basis. See, my partner and I click well, we have this ultimate relationship, this firework, this bolt of lightening that can grasp the attention of others. Nothing in a relationship is perfect, hell we live 4 hours away from one another and make it work because we care about each other and enjoy seeing one another. I got lucky with this one, blessed with this one, not letting go of this one, can’t get them off my mind kind of person and yet you are wondering why I am “drowning in a pool of tears”? My partner just figured out that they may have PTSD from their past relationship (they were in a mentally abusive relationship prior to dating me) and they didn’t realize how it would effect them now in this relationship, but they mentioned their tolerance would be low and they would be in “moods”, “not knowing what they want”, and random “sadness, annoyed, frustrated” etc. My ex had PTSD as well, and I was able to handle it for the most part, but everyone is different, nothing is the same for everyone, I even have a friend with PTSD and she was able to help me understand it in such a way that made sense. Now, my partner did her research (not see a specialist) and figures it would have to be the answer, but it could be a multitude of things, but nonetheless, I trust them. I decided to do my own research of it to refresh my mind and it can be difficult for relationships, friendships, life, etc, but I decided I could stick through this, because I care about them very much.  I let them know they could count of me for support and I would stay by their side no matter how bad it gets, and I continue to make that promise, because I refuse to give up on them.

Normally, I am not the type to blast everything over the internet about my business, but sometimes I need to vent and instead of talking to someone one-on-one, I blog about it or write about it, not for the advice or help, but in hopes it releases the pressure from my brain and others can relate to my story.  My partner asked me for a break, space and told me to calm down.. as if they knew I would panic (which I would have, if I had not been sick at the time), I felt weak, I felt at fault, I felt like I lost a bestfriend/my babe/my reason to smile most days. I reassure them that it was fine and that I understood, and would give them the space they needed, in hopes it would be helpful because I am not sure what they are going through or how they feel, but I imagine it had to be bad if it came down to this. Every relationship needs its space, needs its bumps and obstacles, some go through more than others. I decided to suck it up and be STRONG, suck up my tears and focus on my week ahead, suck it up and smile, suck it up and push through this because I have to, I have to know that this is temporary because I refuse to be negative. I had been doing good, getting good news from editors, and I tried to put my best face on to avoid questions, to avoid embaressment, to get by at work, I thought no one could see through my smile and recognize my worry, my tears from the previous night, the sad songs streaming through my mind and the lack of interest in conversation, but people seen, people asked, people shared their advice and people listened & didn’t laugh, it all helped but it didn’t mend.

Friday will be a week since talking to my partner, I miss the good morning text, the goodnight calls, the counting down to see each other, the “have a good day at work”, I miss texting you telling you how beautiful you are, I miss giving you all my attention, I miss the quick good byes; talk to you after work kind of days, holding you close to me, being told “I am the only one you want”, having you as my go to when everything seemed upside down in my life, your advice. I realize we have bickered, but nothing worth being upset about for more than 5 minutes, I know you need this space babe, so I want to give it to you, I am not leaving your side and I am going to patiently await your return because I don’t give up, and because I miss you like crazy but I am strong, I am trying, I am here for you when you are ready.  This wasn’t meant to be easy, our relationship wasn’t meant to be perfect and I will continue to make mistakes and learn from them, but don’t you forget I am here, I am here.

We had planned on me coming down Oct. 2nd, I have been praying and staying positive in hopes I will hear from them before then. “The strongest people are the ones who have been hurt and still manage to get up” -Shay-lon Moss

Hotels with Gyms

hotels-with-gyms

Hello bloggers!

Have any of you ever booked a hotel based on it having a fitness facility (among other amenities) and because you booked a luxury or upscale or semi upscale hotel, you assumed all their amenities would also be that way, but when you arrive and after checking out the place, you are distraught by the size and lack of equipment the hotel gym provided. I know I have many of times, and it bugs me to think that my workout can be compromised because of the lack of equipment.  In the recent years that I have booked hotels, I don’t normally book the most expensive hotel and I don’t book the lowest priced hotels, but stay somewhere in the middle if possible and base my search on location, amenities and reviews that I read online (not to mention the pictures) and obviously the price of the room each night.  I tend to always like my hotels to come stocked with a gym, because well, I like being able to still workout whenever I am out of town unless provided I am spending more time with someone and less time on my own but it seems like the more hotels that I have gone to, the smaller the gym and more inadequate it is.  Almost makes me laugh when I see a gym with one treadmill, one elliptical machine and one dumbbell with a yoga mat (yes this has happened to me before).  Most people might find this to not be of a bother because the pool, the hot tub, the space of the room, location, and space inside in the room seem to the most important aspects when others look for hotels, but for me, I want a good quality gym and if not in the hotel, I am always hoping there is one nearby that I have a membership for or I am doomed to use what I have.

I am going to share with you ways to cope with a gym that is lacking when you are staying in a hotel

  1. Check out the location of the hotel, is there a gym near you?
  2. is the hotel located on a safe road where running is a option (outside)
  3. do you have any family or friends in the area that have a gym membership or can provide you with information on nearby parks, etc
  4. does the hotel have a gym?
  5. bring your own equipment (small things) no need to pack the whole gym with you, but bring small dumbbells, kettlebells, TRX, etc with you if you wish to use them
  6. ask the hotel rep what their gym is like
  7. make do with what the hotel gym has, if it has cardio machines, use them.  If it has one dumbbell and a mat, be creative.
  8. Look at reviews to get an idea if anyone mentions the gym
  9. do some online researching to see if any of the hotels in the surrounding area are said to have good quality gym facilities
  10. how long is your stay, is it going to be a HUGE deal if the gym sucks?
  11. bring dvds if the room has a dvd player and do workouts via the TV
  12. is there a swimming pool, if so, use that to get a good workout in. Swimming is a total body exercise
  13. Go for a walk to nearby shops and eateries, to get out and move
  14. rent a bike for a day if possible and ride around the area
  15. you can do crunches, push ups, planks, mountain climbers, supermans, side bends, etc all in your room. NOT ALL EXERCISES REQUIRE A GYM!!
Hopefully this list of ideas will help those of you who have had this same issue.  Sometimes you have to prepare for things to not always be perfect, so when you book a hotel, try to think outside of the box, especially when you are expecting a lavish stay and want the works.  The gym facility doesn’t have to be top of the line in order to be of use to you.  Not all exercises require a gym, sometimes you have to be creative and to be honest with you, as long as it makes sense, creativity can be a great source of exercise. Thank you for reading.
Feel free to share, comment and like this blog post. Also, if anyone has anything they would like to add to this list, please feel free to do so!
