Working out 7 days a week & no results

The thing I have realized about the fitness industry while working in it, is people have this ongoing thought in their mind that the more they workout the more results, the better the physique, the stronger they are and the less at risk of health issues they will be.

BUT..

It never ceases to amaze me how many of those people won’t see any results, their physique won’t change and their health issues still arise or have yet to go away & if being strong is lifting 225 for the first year and then never seeing an increase the next year, then strong needs to be re-evaluated as well. The concept of working out everyday sounds like the one way of ticket of gains and being more in shape & seeing more results but if you want some honesty  — you aren’t going to see neither working out 7 days a week without any type of change or routine that gets you there. I work at a gym where I see the same people doing the same routine day in and day out, they do it and do it, and do it until they complain about hitting plateaus, or not seeing the results they like or perhaps they do it and boost themselves up with this mindset that they have grown a whole 2 lbs in their squat after staying on the same routine for 12 weeks. Don’t get me wrong, there are 4 week, 6 week and 12 week programs out there but they are made to keep you focused and give you results in hopes you either do the same routine again (lets go another round) or to help give you a guide in order to keep you on the right path. They work, most do anyways, depending on your goals and how serious you are about the program & your nutrition matches your gym time. Putting those programs aside, its the mundane coming to the gym with no plan, doing a 10 minute cardio session warm up, lifting the same weights with the same 4-6 exercises you have done since starting the gym and leaving without even a single sweat or any sign of fatigue or soreness. Perhaps this is why you aren’t seeing the results, because you are lost and workout to workout but have no sense of direction — you say you want to lose weight but are avoiding cardio like the plague, you want to gain mass but lift 50 percent your max and you say you want a squat pr, but skip leg day BUT because you come into the gym everyday for 7 days a week for a hour at a time, you should reap all the benefits without doing the right kind of work.

If this person is you, you aren’t alone. I am not making light of your journey, but I am putting you in the spotlight so you can see where you might be going wrong and what might need to change if you want all your effort to amount to something. I’ve worked at this gym for over a year and have had people ask me if I see any results from them, because they didn’t see any and I have had to say “no” many times because it’s true, I seen nothing. I don’t bash them, but I do ask them what their goals are and what they do to work towards them & each of them will tell me, “I workout everyday, I don’t understand”, it’s almost like I should applaud their efforts but why, when I know working out everyday won’t gain them the results they need if they don’t do the right kind of work to achieve it. The problem isn’t your frequency that you attend the gym, the problem is you have no plan and no genuine knowledge that will help you excel because you have made this habit into your excuse and use it to justify your reasoning for no results & if someone like myself were to give you some tips or advice or even try to offer my services, you think you are above it or question my knowledge because you have been told this one thing by someone else who has big muscles on a video and takes pre-workout and you believed it or took one thing from it and never really got the whole picture. For this, all I can say is working out 7 days a week won’t grant you result if you don’t take the right steps. Only doing half the work, will give you little to no results or keep you at a plateau if you don’t change your technique. If this is you and don’t know where to start, ask a professional (personal trainer) at your gym with credentials and have them give you some advice or take up a class and talk with an instructor or find valuable information online — to help guide you in the right direction. Regardless of your goals, everyone has a journey and your journey is important and if you want your journey to be successful, you have to be willing to challenge yourself, change routines, research information, be cautious of your eating habits, and take yourself seriously enough to want to see results and have this better self image.

World Autism Awareness Day

For those who are unaware, today is “World Autism Awareness Day” — I am all for mental health awareness (my blog focuses on both mental and physical health). I think it is good that we keep ourselves educated and aware of current events going on around us, mental health issues/conditions and wanting to understand other people’s experiences. I know autism isn’t anything new, but I know people who suffer from a mild form of it, and some of my family members have worked with kids who suffer from moderate to more severe forms of autism. We have come a long way in science, but still there is no affirmative answer as to how some people become autistic and others don’t. It is believed that both environmental factors and genetics play a part in autistic persons but NO specific environmental causes have been proven yet. For a while I know many people blamed the vaccination that prevented childhood infectious diseases but multiple studies have said that the vaccinations did not increase the chances of autism — not saying that these studies are 100 percent true, because I believe there may be studies who slightly disagree with this claim, but I suppose it all depends on what source is saying what and your thoughts around it after gaining more understanding and research on the topic.

If you are unaware of what autism is, it is characterized as “a developmental disorder that that impairs the ability to communicate and interact”. With this being said, it doesn’t mean that everyone with autism cannot speak or form sentences, or is mute; I have a client with autism, who functions and speaks just the same — as said before, some have mild forms and others have more moderate or severe forms of autism.

Common signs of autism?

  • Social impairment and communication difficulties — some people find social interactions difficult. Simply avoiding eye contact, not respond to their name, children with autism may find they would rather be alone (play games by themselves vs playing with other children), many people with autism may have a difficult time with talking about their feelings and understanding other people’s feelings. Delayed speech, no speech, inappropriate forms of speech, awkwardness while talking, may repeat phrases, or give unrelated answers to questions.. etc.
  • Repetitive & characteristic behaviors: Repetitive movements or unusual behaviors, become obsessive over certain topics, preoccupied with certain aspects of a toy, many people with autism thrive from routine (changes can be challenging for them), anger or emotional outburst. etc.

There are more signs I hadn’t listed but this gives you somewhat of an understanding but it’s always good to get more information from your medical doctor or a specialist in the area of mental health who can provide more answers.

Treatments can include medications that DON’T CURE OR TREAT MAIN SYMPTOMS, medications can help some of the symptoms (anxiety, depression, obsessive behavior), another treatment is “educational & behavioral interventions (which have been proven to be helpful)

Diagnosing autism can be difficult at times because of the fact that sometimes symptoms go unrecognized for a period of time & not everyone experiences the same type of symptoms.

Some early on indicators might be:

  • poor eye contact
  • no response to name
  • no babbling or pointing by age 1
  • no smiling or social responsiveness

just to name a few. Later indicators:

  • impaired ability to make friends with peers
  • repetitive or unusual use of language
  • abnormally intense or focused interest
  • preoccupation of certain objects or subjects

plus more that I haven’t listed. Again, the best thing to do is ask questions to medical professionals or do your own research, because even if you don’t know anyone who suffers from autism, it doesn’t mean you won’t ever come into contact with someone who doesn’t have it. Hopefully this information was somewhat helpful and more of you share your own tidbits of information in the comment sections; thanks for reading, comment, like, and share!

Love, Hands, Signing, Heart Hands, Heart

I am overwhelmingly ecstatic! this has been the moment I have been dreaming off. The milestone that that I have been aiming for, because this is the amount of people not including my subscribers who have been nothing but supportive, inspired and motivated, became my friends, my wordpress family. I have built some hefty bonds with some of you, had chats with many of you, have gotten to know the majority of you and have been supporting your blog and progress as well. Nothing says more to me, than to know that my blog has reached over 1000 people from different places and have challenged people to stay fit and healthy, get moving and be productive, make sure you are aware of the stigmas that follow certain mental health disorders, make sure we come together in unity so we can hopefully lessen the bodyshaming, and lessen the bullying and somehow build each other up because we need to, we need to find what brings us together and use it to better the world each day. I am so proud of all of you and so very thankful for all of you, because as you already know, I wouldn’t have made these achievements without your support, your engagement, your time, all of you have been an asset to my accomplishments and a HUGE factor for why I want to continue to write good content, publish good videos, challenge myself to new heights so that I am doing my part in making sure you get inspired, motivated and feel like you can come to me or come to my page and have some sort of fulfillment. I don’t want to let any of you down and I hope my blog continues to grow and continues to help those that want it and build the confidence of those who need someone in their corner. Thank you so much for being my #1 fan!

Know Your Purpose|Know Your Role

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPcZMTg1gdU

I think many of you will be very appreciative of this particular vlog video, as it goes over how your roles you choose in life and the roles given to you in life all make a difference in other people’s lives, make you that much closer to your overall purpose – and by purpose, I mean the one thing that is much more than the external wishes. The things that you aim for that effect other people in a positive way. We all have roles, some have more than others and we might not always have a choice in what roles we have but we have a choice in what direction we choose to use those roles and how they effect people in our circle/lives. Sometimes we ask our-self what is our purpose, how do I fulfill my purpose, when do I know when to fulfill and it and it isn’t always clear to us in the beginning but the more roles you take on and remove from your life, it becomes more clear to you how you want others to view you, how you want people to respond to you and how certain roles can hinder your purpose in life.

In this particular video, I give you examples of two different kind of roles we have in this life and explain to you how to see your purpose and how to view your life from now on, from this day forward. I hope many of you will watch this video, as this is something I came up with on my own time and without a script to go on, be patient with me as I speak to you & share this video among friends, family, peers, social media.. because I want more people to be inspired and to look at their purpose in this way!

Thank you for your time, enjoy the video.

I Am Only Human

Bound By Flaws.

For a first time in a long time..

It had occur to me that people see me as this “super human” amazing women who lifts heavy and walks with confidence and seemingly has her life together & everything she does just seems to be #goals (my blog, my workout, my future career, my online presence, physique, etc) & this scares me a little bit, actually a lot of bit. I mean granted I am thankful that I have inspired people, built relationships and rapport with people who now trust me enough to come to me with questions about fitness/health, have had a blog that went from 0 to hero in matter of months and that I tend to make people smile with my random comedic personality BUT what scares me is that people seem to think because of all this I did do, that they think they can’t do it. Like it took some magical pixie dust and oops the store ran out of it, so looks like no one else is capable of doing AMAZING things with their own life.

I hate to give it to you like this.. BUT.. I am only human. That’s right, I came out the vagina the same way you did and I ended up on planet earth just like you. my baby self didn’t have a 6 pack and big arms, I surely wasn’t tying blogs at the age of 2 and I couldn’t have been that famous because I am still broke & I am willing to bet .. no one really even knows me besides family and friends and the people who know of me online. I could lie and say I am a HUGE deal but lets get real, I am not. Do I want to be? YES! because I have a lot to offer in my field and I know I am capable of GREAT things! I believe this. I know how hard I have to work in order to keep my physique in top notch if I want the “deals” and exposure, I know what it takes to keep my blog running smoothly so that all of you keep coming back to pester me about how much you love my stuff (lol)  & I know how much constant research, learning and events it will take for me to build more knowledge so I know what I am talking about and can teach others and spread my knowledge to others who listen to me. My life is not all daisies and wildflowers with tons of sunshine – I have cloudy days. I have periods and bloating that makes me look “gross” , I have struggled with body shaming, I have had the ups and downs of having a nice physique, I have failed in sporting events, I have struggled with my own self confidence and who I am, I have struggled financially, I have lost out on many opportunities (not being good enough), I have days where my abs are no longer there and my arms look like twigs and I am crying trying to pick myself back up. I have had many days where my post suck and I felt like walking away, and for goodness sake .. I know what it is like to have flaws.

The problem is, maybe not all my flaws are seen with the human eye, maybe some of them are seen and you can pinpoint them in less than 5 seconds, but it doesn’t matter because I am no better than anyone else. Being in the fitness field can put a lot of pressure on you to be something like someone else in order to gain a huge following, more “friends”, more money and more fame. I don’t mind the pressure much anymore because I had to stop trying to be like her or him and had to try better at doing what I do best: being me, with flaws and all. I can’t always show my flaws because, hey it is a business, and I have to put on a good face and a good show if I want to keep everyone else around me happy, but when I do, it hits hard — because that is the one time I can let go and just allow myself to cry or get angry. Becoming a trainer isn’t easy either, hell .. you are responsible for someone outside of yourself and being an athlete, well hell you are responsible with being “good” and if not good, then you better be able to handle the harsh criticisms because the world is ready to chew you whole and spit you out. Truth is, during this whole time of learning about myself and wanting to go the distance in everything I do, I have learned I am as strong as I allow but I can’t handle every hurdle and I can’t handle every ball thrown at me.. because like everyone else, I am human and I am going to have days where I fall and getting back up will seem impossible.

Hopefully this post gave people some perspective and understanding. Feel free to leave comments, likes, share it on social media or follow me 🙂 Thank you.
