Day 23

Did you ever experience bullying? How did you deal with this?

  • Yes, I experienced bullying on multiple occasions throughout my life. I was bullied in elementary school,  two middle schools and two high schools. It was tough, because I was taught to stick up for myself and not allow people to do harm to me, thankfully, my bullying was all verbal but nonetheless, I never did stick up for myself. Normally, I would ignore it and say nothing, cry when I got home or had alone time, I would allow it to happen and not say anything to adults about it including my own family members. I pretty much did nothing. When I was being bullied by my own family sometimes, I did pretty much the same thing or I would lash out and cry, get mad and say really mean things back, remove myself from the room, etc.
Have you ever been a victim of bullying? Did you do anything about it, or tell anyone?

Day 17

Who was your biggest influence growing up?

  • I’d say it was between my mom and Micheal Jordan due to the fact I was all about basketball growing up, played all my life pretty much. As I have gotten older, my influences have changed quite a bit which shows growth and priority. Although my mom has still been an influence in my life, especially since she was a single mom.
Who was your biggest influence growing up? and why?

Day 3

What were the good things you remember from your childhood?

  • Being outside all the time with my younger brother playing sports, riding our bikes, playing with the neighbor kids, and skateboarding
  • My mom taking us to get ice cream before heading to the car wash
  • My mom making it a habit to buy us a cookie whenever we went shopping at the mall — I would always choose M&M and my mom would get peanut butter cookies 🙂
  • Playing basketball ALL THE TIME! lol That was my life most days
  • The holidays always being HUGE, so many people and food
  • Christmas, our Christmas every year was amazing, we would always get whatever we wanted, it was always exciting
  • My mom always being a great cook, she always cooked us a full course meal. We loved her cooking & still do
  • My younger brother and I staying up extremely late playing video games together
  • spending time with my grandma at her house. I would always watch my favorite Disney VHS movie from her HUGE collection (she still has all the Disney VHS movies) and my favorite to watch was “The Lion King”.
  • Going to the park for hours
  • Sledding during the winter
  • playing kickball with my childhood friend and younger brother each summer
  • Dancing in front of the TV in the living room to Backstreet Boys, Usher, NSYNC, etc it was how I learned how to dance — self taught
  • Walking to school with my younger brother – he always walked super slow, it made me pissed off most mornings, lol
I had some good childhood memories, more than what is listed but to keep things short. I was very smart when it came to school, so I won tons of academic awards & athletic awards sometimes too. Not everyday was a good day, but the good times were great times.

What are some good childhood memories you have?

self discovery day 33

What matters to you most?

  • This question didn’t tell me to list what matters to me most, so I assumed it meant “The one thing that matters to you most” and well, it was somewhat easy to mention that my family and their health/well-being matters to me most. Especially my immediate family members: mom, brothers, grandmother, uncles, aunts, etc. People who have always been in my life. I take death pretty hard when someone I love passes away and to have any of them pass away would be extremely difficult for me, especially if it was someone who I had a closeness with.

If it had told me to list things that mattered to me most, I would have mentioned my own health/well-being and mental state, my future and what I am able to do for this world that might make a little bit of a difference.

What are you most thankful for?

To say the least, I am thankful for many things in my life that sometimes I take for granted. I am learning to focus on what I do have and not so much of what I am missing or don’t have, because in the scheme of things, I have more than what others may say for themselves. For me being thankful and listing all the good things I have going for me isn’t enough for this post because I am willing to bet, we can all be thankful for the shelter we have, food we eat, water we drink, and perhaps the luxuries our income enabled us to buy and live as such. Those are all things most people should be thankful for, but in my world I have something more special to be thankful due to my lifestyle.

I am most thankful for having a mom and brothers who accept me no matter my sexuality & whom I have chosen to love me and not turn me away or shun me or make me feel inferior to them due to my sexuality. I am blessed with this support because I have heard and have known many cases where families have disowned their children because of it or sent them away to ‘change them’, they have ridiculed them or judged them, and have chosen to turn the cheek when their child only needed and wanted love and support. I have to admit, it hasn’t always been easy to be open with my family but I think their love outweighs their beliefs and my mom never allowed her belief in God or the bible to outweigh her love for me and support of me. I love her for that, always will because this is something that truly makes me happiest when I think of things I am thankful for.

What is something that you are thankful for, something with a deep meaning or significant part of your life that others might not be able to say for themselves? We should all be thankful for something, because it can always be taken away from us as fast as we got it. Nothing is guaranteed forever.

Birthday Weekend Recap

I finally turned the big 26 on Thursday (3-22-18) and wanted to share how fun the experience was this year to be around different people and share moments/memories. I don’t typically have the chance to take a  bunch of pictures when I am celebrating, but I love writing about it because this is my way of keeping them alive.

Thursday was the start of my birthday and it was a huge surprise to have my mom come to the gym with a cake to wish me a happy birthday. I also, got to spend it with a few gym friends during a workout. I also went out of town to meet up with a friend and she bought me dinner for my bday 🙂

Friday- I worked all day, but a friend came down to spend the weekend with me from out of town, that was wonderful.

Saturday- I had a dinner get together at Texas Roadhouse with friends and family members, the food was good and we shared some fun conversation. After dinner, my friend and I got invited to go out of town and to some local bars — we drove a hour away to her friend’s house and then made some stops to pick others up and headed to some bars. I didn’t get drunk by any means, but that was fine by me, I danced and had some shots and just enjoyed what life had to offer me. We got home around 2 in the morning and I had to work the next morning, so we fell right to sleep.

Sunday- I woke up in pain and it sucked, I had to call off work for the first time since working for the company for 5 years in April (this April), it wasn’t planned this way, but thankfully my job understood my health condition and allowed me the day off. I slept all day pretty much, but when I woke up I tried to have something to eat and played some board games with my friend for a while & then shared some conversation and they left later that night.

Overall my birthday weekend was everything I could imagine at turning 26, and I am happy I was so involved with people — I want to do a special thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday on all my social media platforms, I definitely feel blessed!
